It was another mid-week switch, but I double booked so that we had a check out time after business hours. Meaning, I booked Austin’s stay to check out on Wednesday, but also booked San Antonio’s stay to check in on Tuesday. This way, we could leave Austin after work on Tuesday and avoid having to find a wifi hotspot. The Airbnb was a mother-in-law suite in a neighborhood right outside the city. It was more than comfortable, had our own deck, and was safe.
The Riverwalk. Did you all know about this? Think…Bourbon St but on a river. I think part of the magic is that it’s a floor below the main city so it feels secluded and whimsical. There is a boat tour you can take along the river, or you can just walk it shopping along the way.
This became our go to every night. We stopped at The Alamo one night prior to dinner, but it was honestly nothing to write home about. It was a building right before the Riverwalk, that was simply a courtyard with some statues. It took maybe 5 minutes to see, and in my opinion it was a waste of money. Afterwards, we got the best taco salad I’ve ever had. The host told us we had arrived in town just in time for Mardi Gras (or rather, their rescheduled version due to Covid). We never saw any festivities as we were in bed by 9 pm every night, but we could hear the fireworks.
