Off We Went

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

The first stop was Ft Walton Beach, FL. We left from my parents house in central Florida, but it was still a 6 hour drive to the panhandle. The stop was just overnight, but it was a Saturday so I was able to fully enjoy without having to work. We had never been, but always heard the best things about the panhandle so we were both so excited to finally go

We were staying in a hotel right on the water, and there was a little outdoor bar attached to our building. They had a shortened menu due to Covid, but the drinks were strong and the food was fantastic. Other than that, the crowds in Ft Walton were a hard shove back in to ‘normal life‘.

The hotel itself was dated and I wouldn’t recommend, so I’ll leave the name out of this post. We met up with a family friend who we hadn’t seen in years, but due to the crowds it was hard to find parking at any of the restaurants. We landed on McGuires Irish Pub, a panhandle staple.

After dinner, we went back to the room and prepared for our drive to Mississippi the next morning. We would be in Ocean Springs, MS for 3 nights. Each of us kept a large suitcase full of clothes in the back of our car, along with bins of essential items (soap, extra TP, bug spray, etc). We each had a smaller suitcase we used for the individual stays, and we just rotated clothes in and out as needed so that we weren’t having to lug around a huge suitcase to every stop. We reorganized our respective suitcases, and were on the road by 7am. Two high maintenance gals were off to the bayou!
