Let me start by saying me and my mother would be classified as city girls. We went camping once, and ended up sleeping in the car with the AC. It was traumatic. But, again, I have no dimmer. So when we decided to stop in Mississippi I figured we should do it fully and stay right on a bayou. We ended up at Ocean Springs, MS and when I tell you we loved it, we loved it.

The town is small enough to have a quaint charm, but large enough to have enough to do for 3 days. The first night we visited the Beau Rivage Casino and won big (later to be lost at far inferior casinos). We had so much fun finally being back in society and gambling our hard earned money away, that we ended up spending five hours there.

The remaining days were spent visiting the square, where there were shops and trendy eateries. We ate at at a brand new brunch spot, Lady Mays, where we tried Crawfish for the first time. It’s a lot less fishy than most seafood, and true to southern cuisine, it was served over a biscuit.

Everyone in Ocean Springs could not be more helpful or nicer. I’d say it was the first place I’ve ever experienced true southern hospitality. I will warn, a lot of places are closed on Mondays (kind of added to the small town charm, though). If you’re looking for an Airbnb stay while visiting, I highly recommend Gil's Amberjack Cottage!
