10 AirBnB Amenities to be Considered

If you are going to do Airbnb’s, there are some things to consider:

  1. Look up the neighborhood of your Airbnb on Google Maps ahead of time. Your car will be packed with more valuables than your normal day-to-day life.

  2. Look into the parking they offer. For us, street parking was not ideal given our car was filled to the brim with our cross country supplies. We did not consider this enough New Orleans. Don’t be us.

  3. Read the reviews, but also take into consideration that people tend to leave the positive but not the negative (myself included). This is especially true for small negatives, such as construction next door.

  4. If they have an outdoor space like a garden or patio, it is often a shared space with the family hosting.

  5. Look at the cancellation policy. Some offer no refund, some offer refunds up to a certain date, and some offer partial refunds.

  6. We bought a door stop. Tiny homes are a great option when you are solo traveling but want more privacy than a room in a shared space. However, a lot of tiny homes do not have blinds on every window, or a lock on all doors.

  7. Make sure you know what type of accommodation you are booking. If it is an attachment onto the main house, you will likely hear the family through the walls and vis versa. If it’s a tiny home, it will likely be close to the main home in the backyard somewhere. If it is a shared room in a home, you will likely have to share fridge space, microwave usage, etc.

  8. Check what kitchen items they have listed on the posting. Traveling can get costly, so anytime you can cook a meal yourself it is helpful! Likewise, if an Airbnb does not have a microwave it becomes difficult to have anything other than take-out. Ive stayed in plenty of Airbnb’s that don’t even have a spoon.

  9. Refund policy. Airbnb’s refund, should something go wrong, is not great. In Houston our Airbnb was 93 degrees inside and we were paying $200 for one night. When I reached out o Airbnb Support, ‘their refund policy could only issue $43 back at the maximum.‘

  10. Wifi. Even if they have wifi listed, it may not be strong enough for conference calls. I’d say 50% of my Airbnb’s had internet strength issue.

These are things to be considered, for some people they may be pluses. For me, working while traveling is way easier when you have guaranteed strong internet.
